Regent Heights Condo Project by John Foo

Here's one of our latest projects designed by none other than our very own managing director, Mr John Foo.

John's design, especially with the living room and the master bedroom, really concentrates on the goal of the project to create a very relaxing, calming and cozy yet elegant environment.

Tell us what you think of the design! =)

Don't you just feel like you want to slouch on this couch, grab a book or watch TV and forget about the world? =)

Plants vs. Indoor Zombie Air

Living in developed countries and cities where economic development is directly proportional to the average life expectancy because of a list of factors that affects our general health especially our respiratory system, sometimes we think that the only safe place where our lungs can enjoy unpolluted air is in the comforts of our home.

Healthy lungs. (yours may not necessarily be green)

However (yeah, you know there is a catch), there is a study that shows that the outdoor air is actually cleaner than the air you are breathing right now in your own room (gasp!). The biggest factor for this shocking revelation are the plants and trees that are constantly "cleaning" the air outside. This is especially true in places like Singapore where planting trees and growing plants wherever there is open soil are very much encouraged.

Heck, we even have giant trees just opened!

So for the sake of healthy living, and also for the sake of choosing the correct plants to put inside your home as you decorate, you can consider these top 6 NASA (yes, NASA as in "space" NASA) certified air-purifying plants to be placed in your house starting with:

6. Boston Fern

The Boston Fern is very popular. In fact, a lot of households in Asia uses this one as an ornamental plant. This afro-looking plant is coined as the "most efficient filtering plant" because of its ability to expel mold and toxins from the indoor air. Also, it really looks like a green afro. Cool!

5. Dwarf Date Palm

Don't get fooled by its name because not only that this so-called "dwarf"  can grow up to 7 feet high, it also lowers the concentration of chemical toxins that float around your room right now, big time!

4. Dracaena

No wonder its name resembles the most popular blood-sucker in history, this very (ironically) vibrant and radiant plant starts "sucking" in the un-pure air in your room as soon as you bring it inside your house - like Dracula hungry for toxins in the indoor air.

3. Rubber Plant

If for some reasons your house is filled with toxic chemicals in the air, specifically formaldehyde, then the rubber plant is what you need. It excels in removing such toxins in the indoor air you breathe. Another awesome thing about rubber plant is that it needs less sunlight compared to other plants but performs better than any of them when it comes to purifying air. Just don't let your pet (or children!) chew on its leaves for it can be quite toxic.

2. Bamboo Palm

Not only that this plant is perfect for Oriental themed designs, the Bamboo Palm is a wide-ranged plant purifier. Just put it in indirect sunlight and keep it moist (not wet, just moist) and it will grow vigorously.

1. The Areca Palm Plant

Tops our list is the Areca Plant whish is know as the "most efficient air humidifier" in the plantae kingdom. This wonder plant can keep on removing toxins from the indoor air you breathe. What makes it more efficient is that it can keep your home moist specially in dry seasons. It can, in fact, replace electric humidifiers in some countries that has winter season.

Making Your Home Pet-friendly

It is said that the people who have the compassion and love for animals are the people who make good friends, partners, or house-mates. It is actually true because animal-lovers know how to take care of a living thing and know how to give and receive affection from a non-human companion.

The making of a good citizen.

It is nice to have a pet in the house. Unless your pet is a savaged hyena or meat-loving alligator, it is always comforting to go back in your house and be greeted with your affectionate cat or your fun-loving dog, or  to wake up in the morning with the chirping of your pet bird.

"Welcome to hell. I mean, welcome back home."

Without sacrificing comfort and style, you can actually make your house to be pet-friendly. In fact, pet-friendly decoration is becoming a trend nowadays. To be able to accommodate your pet's needs, you need to have the right materials for your furniture. But these materials should also be comfortable for humans. It isn't really difficult to do that since most of the times if it works for you pet, it also works for you and your kids and your guests.

The often your pet bathe and groom, the longer your house is clean.
By trimming your pet's nails regularly they won't be scratching your floors or any of your furniture. Also, if you bathe them and brush them every so often, you would remove the loose hair even before they fall to your carpet, to your bed, to your sofa, everywhere. More over, if you bathe your pets regularly they wouldn't mess your rugs and furniture making them last longer because you don't need to wash them more often. Isn't it more fun to clean your dog than your upholstery?

With the right vacuum, you can't be wrong.
If you are a natural pet-lover and you already have a pet even before you start decorating your house, you consider buying sofa with the colour that matches the colour of your pet's hairballs that they will be virtually invisible. But no matter how invisible they seem to be in your sofa, you need to vacuum at least twice a week or once a day if your cat is shedding. You must admit that your pet's hair has an odour and it will only attract more dirt to your sofa because it has oil. Ask your pet-lover friends what vacuum they use so you can get pointers. You will be surprised how horrifyingly furry your sofa, your carpet and all your living room is.

Everything must be washable.
Unless your dog or your cat sleeps outside the house, there will always be "accidents" when they sleep with you on the bed. For example, cats tend to barf a lot and you need to be prepared for it by covering your bed with thick pad. You can use bedsheets that can hide the pet hair as well as stains in so that you can buy time washing them, thus minimizing the wear.

"Please wash this bedsheet when we wake up. It smells funny."

Tricks with fabrics.
There are synthetic fabrics that are pet-proof. Unlike velvet or silk which are like the perfect magnet for pet-hair and other dirt, choose fabrics that are stain, smell and bacteria resistant. Leather is always a good choice because it can be easily cleaned but if you are not a fan of leather because you find it depressing to use a fabric made from animal to use for your pet, you can consider pleather or ultrasuede as an alternative.

And of course don't forget to train your pets to use the litter box. Also, you can ask your interior designer to consider these little members of the family when they create the design for your home.
