Rezt&Relax Featured on RenovAID Part 1

"I didn't know that just a simple renovation like this can lead a family to have a hope..."
-Mr. John Foo, Rezt & Relax Interior

Mediacorp's reality TV show RenovAID featured Rezt & Relax Interior in one of their episodes. Our very own Managing Director Mr. John Foo volunteered for the show to be able to help the needy and to give solutions for the problems of a family regarding their homes.

The Wong family was the chosen family to be granted the renovation for this episode. There are three generations of the Wong's living in one house - Mr. and Mrs. Wong, their son and his wife and 2 children. For designers, it is quite hard to design a space that will suit both the older and the younger generation but in this case there is much more constraint since Mr. and Mrs. Wong are both elderly and Mrs. Wong is bed ridden. The original form and design of the house made it difficult for the elderly to move around since there are a lot of clutters and their furnitures are scattered around the house.

As Mr. Foo surveys the Wong's house, he noticed that there a lot of changes that must be made to which required consideration for the elderly and for the younger generation who are living in the same house. The main goal was to create ample space to maximize convenience for everyone. The kitchen was planned to be L-shaped which will give the Wong's bigger space which has proper space for laundry and also storage spaces.

When John examined the bed room he did not plan to retain any of the original furnitures inside it. However, Mr. wanted to keep all of the old furnitures since they have sentimental value for him and this gave our designer a headache. But then, John was determined to impress Mr. Wong with the design of the room to let him get away from throwing the old furnitures and retaining only one or two cabinets for the room.

With proper planning, the project was made on time and the result was impressive. The moment the Wong's stepped into the house, they were all amazed by the new look of their home. Showing them around the house, it only made them realize how important interior designing is for a household. The bedroom which was once a mess is now an organized resting place and everyone now has a proper bed to sleep on.

Mr. Wong was particularly excited about the new kitchen. The team didn't know that Mr. Wong can cook but wasn't able to prepare food for the family for over a year now because of the broken stove which he feared might explode anytime. With their new kitchen, cooking food will be very pleasurable. It will also cut the cost of the family's expenses for eating outside and the food which will be served is definitely healthier when home-cooked.

The bathroom is also impressive because it was now designed to accommodate the elderly Mrs. Wong who is in a wheelchair. Any member of the family can now bathe Mrs. Wong with ease in their new bathroom. The floor is also treated with anti-slip chemical for added safety.

The living room which was once full of the Wong's stuff everywhere is more spacious and giving them more proper ventilation. This is beneficial for every member of the family specially to their health. Mr. Wong didn't even notice that his rainbow chair was replaced with a new one.

The overall result of this effort is really heart-warming. The renovation gave the family more hope for the future. They now have a positive outlook in life and they can always look forward to going back to a home which is organized, clean, creates a happier environment and most specially a place where they can rest & relax.
