Top 5 Common Interior Design Mistakes

     There are a lot of ways in which you can improve your day to day living through interior design. However, if you are not a professional designer you tend to commit mistakes, in fact you tend to commit A LOT of mistakes in decorating your home which, in turn, can just make more damage than good. You certainly don't want to commit mistakes when it comes to decorating your house especially if you are budget constrained so you must know the top mistakes in interior design and remember to try to avoid them. After all, like that nun, you also don't need to bite a moldy cookie to know it tastes... bad.


5. The High Photo Situation


     With absolute freedom, you can put your photos or artworks anywhere in your house. Whether you want an oil-based self portrait of you to hang in your toilet or post your family picture in your dining room beside the last supper, it's totally up to you. The issue is how high you hang your precious framed photos. Hang your photos too low and all your visitors will definitely have a bad back when they leave your house. Hang them too high and the number of eyes that will adore your portrait will be next to zero.


4. Size of Furniture ≠ Size of the Room

     Most of the people who wants to redesign their rooms get new furniture as well. If you are buying new furniture, be sure that it will fit with the dimension of your room. This ons is tricky because big furniture in a small room can work out with proper placement. To put it in a simpler note, just buy furniture that will fit through your door so you won't have a problem getting it in and out of your room.


3. Mirror-phobic


     Mirrors do wonders in your home especially if your space if constrained. However, a lot of people do not realize the importance of putting mirrors in their homes and how to use it effectively to serve its other purpose besides feeding your narcissism. Not putting mirrors will make your room look like a box so if you feel like you are not a shoe, try installing enough windows and use mirrors to reflect light around the house. Using reflective furnitures can also help to make your house look bigger than it actually is.


2. Colour Disaster


     This is the favourite mistake of most people who DIY their interior design. This is also one of the most disastrous crime that you can commit if you mess up with it. The look of your room will not be complete without colors and choosing the right color theme is a pain in the butt. One mistake and your room can look like a circus gone very bad. One more mistake and your room will look like it is infested with confused chameleons sticking in your walls. Colors are also not limited to walls so you have to consider the hue of your furnitures and how it blends with the rest of the things inside the room. 


1. Let There Be Light


     It is said that lighting can make or break an interior design project. A lot of things look different in the dark and with the lights on. But installing many lights doesn't mean that you have done it correctly. The position of the lights and how bright the light is are the factors to consider. In your bedroom,for example, you need to layer your lights so that you have light to give you "the mood" and a direct light for your reading. There are now a lot of creative ways to install lights and there is a big chance that you are now in a room with bad lighting while reading this blog.
